Mastizaade is an upcoming 2017 Indian action masala film written and directed by Milap Zaveri. It features Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Tabu and Tamannah on its main cast. The film is set against the backdrop of Goa during Independence Movement in India during the freedom struggle against Portuguese colonial rule. Its production was on schedule until it was announced that director Madhur Bhandarkar's Indu Sarkar would be released before it on January 25th 2017 which caused a delay of its release date to March 30th 2018. It has been dubbed into English as "The Mastizaade". Mastizaade was announced by Milap Zaveri in 2013, where the project was launched by joining hands with Ajay Devgn's production company, Ajay Devgn Ffilms. Initially Deepika Padukone was to star as heroine but as she couldn't allot dates for the film as her previous commitments got extended. Actress Tamannah was roped in as her replacement and Deepika Padukone played a cameo role who will appear in one song. The first official poster of the film, featuring Tamannah and Riteish Deshmukh together for the first time, was launched on January 1, 2015 and also first look teaser of Mastizaade was launched on January 1, 2015 on YouTube. The film also stars Taapsee Pannu in a pivotal role. The director Milap Zaveri questioned that "How did Mastizaade became a female oriented film?" He then explained that Mastizaade refers to the European equivalent of Indian 'nautch party'. The meaning for this word is "dancing girls" and it was used during the time of Nawabs. So, in his film there are three lead characters who are from royal background and hence he calls it as Mastizaade. The filming started in August 2015 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was a 10 days schedule shot in a 30 ft yacht. The shooting started in Amsterdam and the team was also there for a promotional event which was organised by Ajay Devgn Ffilms. After finishing the schedule, there were reports that the filming will be held in Goa but Goa Tourism Development Corporation denied to give permission for shooting of Milap Zaveri's Mastizaade. The producer said that they are planning to shoot some important scenes of the film at Casinos of Netherlands later this year (after completing necessary permissions). During the pre-production period, it was confirmed that Ajay Devgn will not be present in the film's shooting. This was because Ajay Devgn's shooting schedule was to be shot in Dubai for his film Rangoon due to which he will not be able to join the team in Netherlands. Film unit has started the shoot of Goa schedule at Goa itself. The film is being shot for 40 to 45 days only. According to Bhandarkar, "He shot something completely different here which he can't do when he goes back."
